Internationally acclaimed soprano and University of Birmingham alumna Carolyn Sampson returns to the ever-developing campus to celebrate the official opening of the Bramall Music Building. She is joined by the Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the University Music Society's many student ensembles.

Professor Andrew Kirkman, Head of the Department of Music, conducts Symphony No 2 by Edward Elgar, who became the first Professor of Music at the university in 1905. We also celebrate with the first performance of fanfares written for the occasion by composition staff within the Department of Music.
