  1. Symphony No 3 in D minor - Gustav Mahler

Welcome to Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra's 50th birthday season.

What better way to open our 50th birthday year than with Mahler's Symphony No 3, voted one of the ten greatest symphonies in a survey of conductors carried out by BBC Music Magazine.

Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra will be joined by Sarah Winn (RNCM), ladies choir Mirabile Vocal Ensemble and boys from Nottingham High School for this marvellous symphony.

The symphony has 6 movements and was described by Mahler as "A summer's midday dream". His narrative for the work gives each movement a title:

I Pan Awakes, Summer marches in
II What the flowers in the meadow tell me
III What the animals in the forest tell me
IV What man tells me
V What the angels tell me
VI What love tells me
