Eavesdrop on the intimate thoughts and words of friends, families and lovers through poetry, song and opera. The Samling Academy’s semi-staged summer concert follows the art of conversation and reveals how music speaks when words fail. The programme will include opera scenes by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Henry Purcell, Domenico Cimarosa, Gian Carlo Menotti and Petr Ilych Tchaikovsky and songs by Leonard Bernstein, Benjamin Britten, Robert Schumann and Franz Schubert.

The Samling Academy returns to Sage Gateshead for what is always a very popular evening, showcasing local talent. The concert is directed by Samling Artists Miranda Wright and pianist Leo Nicholson who will also accompany the Academy Singers. The Samling Academy is an intensive vocal training programme for singers aged 14 – 21 who live or study in North East England, and many of its former participants have gone on to professional singing careers.
