  1. The Dream of Gerontius Op 38 - Sir Edward Elgar

The culmination of the Exeter Festival Chorus 30th anniversary season takes place in the magnificent setting of Exeter Cathedral and features some 200 performers.

Widely regarded as Elgar’s choral masterpiece, Gerontius is a large and powerful work. It is a statement of faith and wonder that tells the story of a dying man whose soul is guided by an angel towards heaven, where he is about to witness wonders beyond any human imagination. The text is taken from a longer poem by Cardinal John Henry Newman.

‘This is the best of me,’ the composer wrote on his manuscript score, and the searing burst of musical emotion as Gerontius looks for a moment into the loving eyes of his God bears that out in a truly dramatic way.

We are delighted to be joined by our German partner choirs Hanauer Kantorei and Bachchor, Bad Homburg, and Exeter Cathedral choristers.

We are offering a 10% discount for any purchase of 10 or more tickets.
