  1. St John Passion BWV 245 - Johann Sebastian Bach

The St John Passion is many different things to many different people: a vivid and dramatic depiction of the contrast between earthly suffering and heavenly salvation; a deeply personal exploration of loss, grief, and hope; a complex and masterful musical realisation of the Passion text.

On Saturday 25 March, the Cantus Ensemble and the Academy of St Mary-le-Bow - two of London's outstanding non-professional ensembles - join forces to present their interpretation of this monumental pillar of Western classical music.

They are joined by an exquisite cast of young Bach specialists, led by Peter Davoren as the Evangelist. Jonathan Brown and Michael Hickman sing the roles of Christ and Pilate, respectively, while Jessica Cale, Laura Fleur and Gareth Edmunds sing the piece's many delectable arias.

The beautiful and atmospheric setting of St Mark's Church, Regent's Park provide an ideal ambience in which to enjoy this epic work: it is an evening not to be missed.
