Start your countdown to Christmas with Chansons, Perth's chamber choir, in St Ninian's Cathedral on Saturday December 17th at 7.30pm, where they will be performing much loved Christmas carols and songs.
The first half of the concert features traditional Christmas choral music, including the opening chorus from JS Bach's Christmas Cantata BWV 63, Berlioz's 'The shepherd's farewell' and Duruflé's 1960 choral masterpiece ‘Ubi caritas’, from his ‘Quatre Motets sur des thèmes grégoriens’.
The second half includes arrangements of timeless favourites such as 'Hark the Herald Angels Sing', 'In the Bleak Midwinter', 'Let it Snow!' and 'The Most Wonderful Time of the year'. There is even a possibility that our good friend Rudolph might make a musical appearance!
The concert includes many seasonal favourites plus some old carols in new musically refreshing arrangements by Will Todd and Kirby Shaw, incorporating jazz rhythms and colours. Joining Chansons will be Howard Duthie (organ) and a Jazz Trio comprising Gordon Murch (piano), Paul Vaughan (bass) and Andrew Fraser (percussion).
After the concert the audience will be invited to join Chansons for mince pies and wine; a sure sign that Christmas is just around the corner.
