Carolyn Sampson’s appearances with Joseph Middleton are always a highlight of the Festival. At the heart of tonight’s programme are works by Benjamin Britten and Francis Poulenc, who were friends and mutual admirers. Carolyn and Joseph continue our focus on the Philip Larkin centenary with 'Five Larkin Songs' by the leading composer Huw Watkins, written for Carolyn Sampson in 2010. Also included are four songs by Henry Purcell, with new realisations by Detlev Glanert, Stephen Hough and Oxford Lieder’s former Associate Composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad.

Generously supported by Stephen Page and Anthea Morland.
