Chosen as ‘One to Watch’ by International Piano Magazine, Jordanian pianist Iyad Sughayer’s 2019 debut album of Khachaturian pieces was described by reviewers as ‘outstanding’. His recital begins with an early work by Khachaturian, which draws on the folk music and rhythms of his native Armenia. Mozart’s concise and sparkling sonata was written in his formative years whilst Sibelius was first discovering his ‘Finnish voice’ in his exquisite Ten Pieces. Iyad’s recital ends with a dazzling showpiece by Chopin. Thought to have been written for an unfinished third piano concerto, it’s one of his most virtuosic works.
