  1. Miserere mei, Deus - Carlo Gesualdo
  2. O vos omnes - Carlo Gesualdo
  3. Tres sacrae cantiones - Carlo Gesualdo, completed and arranged by Igor Stravinsky

Everyone knows the infamous Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa: prince, composer, and murderer. Rage and jealousy drove him to murder his unfaithful wife and her lover, which then caused great darkness and solitude in the latter half of his life. This anguish is reflected in his exotic, rule-breaking polyphony, displayed aptly in his 1603 setting of O vos omnes and a sombre rendering of the Miserere. Igor Stravinsky greatly admired Gesualdo and, for the 400th anniversary of his birth, completed three of Gesualdo’s previously unfinished motets. According to Robert Craft: "What he has done is to recompose the whole from the point of view of his added parts, with a result that is not pure Gesualdo, but a fusion of the two composers."
