Join us for an evening of musical ephemera that are by turns witty, profound, virtuosic, heartfelt, and poetic.
Kettner Artist-in-residence Hannah-Elizabeth Teoh performs the complete 24 Preludes by Frederic Chopin. These enduringly popular piano treasures represent the pinnacle of Chopin's artistry, distilled into perfectly-formed miniatures that in some cases are barely a minute in length. Alongside these, we showcase the first work of our newly-appointed Composer-in-Residence, Daniel Lee Chappell, with the world premiere of his Microludes. A collection of similarly compact pieces, these 12 short works are full of character, taking inspiration from Chopin's work.
"They soothe the soul with golden dreams and raise it to ideal regions. Everything is full of spontaneity, élan, bounce. They have the free and great features that characterize the works of genius.” - Franz Liszt
"I would term the preludes strange. They are... so to speak, ruins, individual eagle's pinions, all disorder and wild confusions." - Robert Schumann
Event opens at 6:15pm, with music at 7.
