The Reading Symphony Orchestra is looking forward to performing its first summer concert since 2019, in the beautiful surroundings of St Paul’s Church, Wokingham. We are delighted to be joined by Oliver Simpson, 2019 winner of the Reading Symphony Orchestra Young Musicians Competition, for Elgar’s magnificent Cello Concerto. Oliver, who has been selected as an LPO Junior Artist for 2021-22, studies at the Junior Guildhall and we are excited to be performing with him. The concert will start with Shostakovich’s Festive Overture and the second half will feature Schumann’s Symphony No 3, also known as the ‘Rhenish’ symphony. Schumann was inspired to write this following a trip to the Rhineland – and fittingly, it was premiered in 1851 in Dusseldorf, Reading’s twin town. We look forward to welcoming you to this summer concert.
