Born in Oxford, Matthew started music lessons at an early age, learning piano, violin and trumpet. Gravitating naturally to the piano, he went on to gain a Bachelor’s degree, studying with Richard Ormrod at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and a Master‘s degree at the Royal College of Music with Leon McCawley, where he won many prizes, including the Chappell Medal. Professionally, he has had invaluable guidance and mentoring from Nelly Ben-Or, Charlotte Tomlinson and Graham Fitch.

Matthew has performed extensively as a soloist and collaborator across the UK and abroad, most recently in 2019 and 2018 at the Edinburgh Festival, the BBC Proms, London’s Southbank Centre, Barbican Centre, Buckingham Palace, St. George’s Hanover Square and St. John’s Smith Square, Chipping Campden and Witney Festivals, Conservatoire de Toulouse and a recital tour of the south west of England. Recently he has performed with the London Contemporary Orchestra in Jonny Greenwood’s soundtrack to “Phantom Thread”. Chamber music and song accompaniment are a central part of his career, including performances with the Poznansky Trio, cellists Willard Carter and Sebastian Poznansky and baritones Theo Platt and Paul Vialard. He has also had performances broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Classic FM and ITV.

Matthew lives in London, and is also a piano teacher and examiner. He is a keen potter, enjoys cooking, and loves the novels of P G Wodehouse.
