The Gustav Holst Society and the Ralph Vaughan Williams Society are coming together to host a lunchtime concert. The programme consists of part songs by Gustav Holst, including several being performed for the first time, and now published by Goodmusic under the title ‘The Voyager’.

Both composers shared strong links with Gloucestershire; Holst was born in Cheltenham in the house which is now a Victorian museum, and Vaughan Williams was born in the Vicarage at Down Ampney. As well as lifelong friends they became one another's chief musical critics, both finding inspiration in their native scenery.

Tickets are available prior to the concert from the Chairman of the Holst Society or by cash on the door (no cards).

From 4:30pm there will be Choral Evensong in the Cathedral featuring an all-English programme including Stanford’s Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in D, a Psalm Chant by Herbert Howells, the hymn Hills of the North Rejoice by Martin Shaw, the anthem Song of the Tree of Life by Vaughan Williams and the concluding organ voluntary will be Parry’s Fantasia and Fugue in G. Evensong will be sung by the Gloucester Cathedral girl choristers.
