This is the dream combination of artists for this astonishing repertoire. James Gilchrist and Elizabeth Kenny explore the songs of John Dowland (1563-1626), the Schubert of the English Renaissance. Dowland was a singer and lutenist himself, who wrote songs throughout his nomadic career at English, Danish, French and Italian courts.

James and Elizabeth also include songs by Dowland’s contemporary, Thomas Campion, and trace a thread through four centuries with some carefully selected Schubert songs, Rachel Stott’s Songs from the Lords’ Masque, and Alec Roth’s 2010 setting of John Donne, Autumnal.

We are delighted to present this live concert from the stunning mid-16th century Oak Room at Broughton Castle, by kind invitation of Martin and Pauline Fiennes.

This concert will be streamed completely live from Broughton Castle. Shortly afterwards, it will also be available to watch again (using the same ticket and link) until 1 November 2020. Click here for further information on how tickets will work this year.
