  1. Requiem Op 9 - Maurice Duruflé
  2. Songs of Farewell - Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry

A Country Far Beyond - a programme of beautiful choral music sung by local chamber choir, The Brighton Singers. Director Nicholas Houghton and organ accompaniment by Iestyn Evans.

Songs of Farewll by Hubert Parry were written during the First World War when a number of his pupils at the Royal College of Music were being killed in action. Parry's choice of texts are thought to reflect a yearning to escape the violence of a world at war, and to find peace in a heavenly realm.

The Requiem, Op 9, is a setting of the Latin Requiem by Maurice Duruflé for a solo voice, mixed choir, and organ, or orchestra with organ. The thematic material is mostly taken from the Mass for the Dead in Gregorian chant. The Requiem was first published in 1948 by Durand in an organ version.

The title of the concert reflects the feelings of the composers who wrote these pieces so full of emotion.
