  1. Messiah HWV 56 - George Frideric Handel

Messiah is a beloved and familiar work, frequently performed around Christmas time. We have chosen to offer this work after Easter with the period instruments of 18th Century Sinfonia to accompany us. It was in fact originally written as an Easter offering, with its first performance being at the Music Hall in Dublin in April 1742. Ladies were asked to wear dresses without hoops in order to make more room for more people in the audience!

Handel, though German born, spent nearly 50 years in London and is almist considered English as a result. Messiah is wonderful to sing in its entirety and equally wonderful to listen to, so come along on May 2nd.
