The Barbican Quartet is the winner of the St Martin’s Chamber Music Competition 2018

The Barbican String Quartet was founded when its members met while studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. In 2017 they made their Wigmore Hall debut and in 2018 they won the St Martin’s Chamber Music Competition, which rewards an outstanding young ensemble with performance opportunities at St Martin-in-the-Fields in London, and around the UK. The Barbican Quartet is based in London and they currently study with members of the Belcea Quartet and also at the Reina Sofia String Quartet Academy in Madrid. They perform regularly in the UK and Europe and have broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Each of their three concerts begins with a Haydn quartet, in this case an early one. It is followed by Janácek’s first quartet, based on a short story by Tolstoy, and an exuberant Mendelssohn quartet.

Please note that the Mendelssohn Quartet will be Op 44 No 2 in E minor (not No 1 in D major as originally published)
