Music and Melodrama

Renowned actor Nicholas Jones narrates Edgar Allan Poe's gothic horror story 'The Mask of the Red Death', from which André Caplet's Conte fantastique for harp and string quartet, is based.

The concert starts with Janácek's first String Quartet, 'Kreutzer Sonata', inspired by Tolstoy's tale of passion, jealousy and murder, and continues with Arvo Pärt's 'Fratres' for cello and harp. The evening concludes with Elgar's wonderful Piano Quintet.

Ticket price includes a glass of wine or soft drink. Concert ends at 9.45pm.

Nicholas Jones and pianist John Thwaites will be discussing the work and other musical dramas in a pre-concert talk beginning at 6.30pm, included in the ticket price.

As in previous years, the festival is delighted to be once again supporting The Rosemary Foundation charity, providing 'hospice at home' services in the locality. For more information see here
