Born in South Korea, Cheongbin Yu obtained his Bachelor’s degree at Seoul National University then continued his study in Piano Pedagogy at Hansei University. Since September 2017, he has been pursuing a Master’s degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London with a full scholarship, under the guidance of Christopher Elton and Joanna MacGregor.

Cheongbin has appeared as a soloist with Changwon Orchestra, Gunpo Symphony Orchestra and Chungju Symphony Orchestra in Korea. A prize winner of several major competitions in South Korea including first prizes at CBS, Chuncheon, Suri, and T&B Music Competitions, he also recently won the first prize at the Royal Academy of Music Lilian Davies Prize for an outstanding performance of a Beethoven Sonata.

Since 2016, Cheongbin has been a member of ‘Piano Boulevard’, an ensemble comprising seven Korean pianists with its aim to promote classical music to the general public through performances of familiar classical pieces heard in films.
