  1. String Quartet No 12 in C minor, 'Quartettsatz' D 703 - Franz Schubert
  2. Quintet for clarinet and strings in B flat Op 34 J182 - Carl Maria von Weber
  3. Quintet for piano and string quartet in F minor Op 34 - Johannes Brahms

These works are musical treasures born from true friendship. Weber wrote his Clarinet Quintet for his good friend Baermann, replete with virtuosic technical passages and coloratura vocal passages for the soloist; Brahms relied on his friend Clara Schumann to encourage him to finish his masterpiece; Schubert honed his writing for string quartet through chamber music at home with his brothers, and his Quartettsatz is often regarded as the first of his mature works.

Performed here by our friends, musicians of exceptional talent and generosity, who return to Hellensmusic each year to share their love of music with us.
