'I am delighted to give a warm welcome to the Sidcup Symphony Orchestra to perform their New Year Festive concert. This programme, with something for everyone, will be uplifting and just what we all need as 2019 gets underway.' The Very Reverend Dr Philip Hesketh, AKC, Dean of Rochester Cathedral and President of The Friends of Rochester Cathedral.

'I am thrilled to be bringing Sidcup Symphony Orchestra to perform at Rochester Cathedral in January 2019 for the first time. The Cathedral will be an amazingly evocative space for a symphony orchestra to make music. We're bringing a festive New Year’ programme starting with Malcolm Arnold's ferocious but also uplifting Peterloo Overture – a sure musical hang-over cure, and more seriously, an apt moment of reflection 200 years after the event it evokes – followed by Debussy's dreamy Prélude à ‘L’Après-midi d’un faune’, and Charles Ives' Variations on America – you’ll know the tune well when you hear it. The second half of the concert will include music from Tchaikovsky's ballet Swan Lake, and end in Viennese ballroom mood with Johann Strauss' Emperor Waltz and Radetzky March - loud audience participation is very welcome.’ James Ross, Sidcup Symphony Orchestra Music Director and Conductor

Funds raised from this concert, organised by The Friends of the Cathedral, are going to help towards maintaining the fabric of this historical place of worship, founded in 604 AD.

Tickets are £15 each or £12 for over 65s, under 18s and those who are unwaged. There are £40 tickets available for a reception at Salisbury Villa, Epaul Lane - just across the road from the Cathedral. The main part of this house dates from 1830 and the rest dates from earlier. In addition, a Roman road runs underneath the property. Included in this price is a canapé-and-fizz reception, reserved seat, complimentary programme and an opportunity to meet James Ross.
