Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No… it’s a flute!
Recipient of the Sir James Galway Rising Star award, flautist Stephen Clark was born in Glasgow, and studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Royal Northern College of Music and in both America and Switzerland with Sir James Galway. As a soloist he performs over 200 concerts each year internationally.
In addition to his engagements as a classical musician Stephen has performed alongside several popular music artists including, Annie Lennox, Andrea Bocelli and pop band McFly. He can be heard on several movie soundtracks including James Bond’s 'Spectre' and 'Kung Fu Panda 3'. He has recorded for Classic FM, Linn Records, Naxos and broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 alongside 2 solo albums on the Voyage Record label. In 2015, Stephen was accepted into the Recording Academy of America and is now a voting member at the Grammys.
Joining Stephen in this tour of Dumfries and Galloway will be Ashley Beauchamp. Ashley is a pianist and conductor based in London. Alongside his partnerships with instrumentalists, Ashley specialises in working with vocalists and currently holds the position of répétiteur for the Glyndebourne Youth Opera programme.
Absolute Classics Director, Alex McQuiston remarked, “Stephen tells me it has been many years since he has performed in Scotland. It gives me great pleasure to welcome him home to perform for the Absolute Classics audiences this December. Stephen is one of the leading flute players of his generation, you only need to glimpse at his biographical accolades to realise that these concerts are going to be super human!”
