  1. The Banks of Green Willow - George Butterworth
  2. Sea Pictures Op 37 - Sir Edward Elgar
  3. Symphony No 2 in D Op 73 - Johannes Brahms

The opening piece of this concert is George Butterworth's The Banks of Green Willow. This idyll was written just before the start of the First World War and paints a picture of the peace and tranquillity of the British countryside.

We are privileged to have local soprano Lowri Probert, currently studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, with us to sing Elgar's lovely song-cycle Sea Pictures. Elgar took a set of five poems on a sea theme, (one by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, another by his wife Alice), skillfully weaving words and music together.

We will also be performing Brahms's Symphony No 2 which, although it has no common subtitle, is very much pastoral in nature, and a fitting conclusion to our autumn concert.
