Celebrating Sir Granville Bantock

“...Maria Marchant, who clearly demonstrates a loving empathy for this music, delights in displaying her formidable technical and expressive facility in these contrasting colourful pieces that are receiving their first recordings here...” Ian Lace, Music Web-International

BBC Music Magazine Rising Star Maria Marchant performs a unique programme celebrating the 150th anniversary of British composer Sir Granville Bantock, born in 1868, following Maria’s revolutionary release of the composer’s extraordinary piano music earlier this year to critical acclaim for Somm Recordings. In this recital, Maria will explore the link between the harmonious, imaginative and passionate piano writing of both Bantock and Sibelius and the concert will be introduced by the composer’s grandson, Dr Cuillin Bantock. Come and enjoy listening to this wonderful and virtually untapped repertoire, barely heard before on the concert platform; a concert not to be missed!

Maria Marchant is in demand as recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician since giving her Wigmore Hall and Southbank debuts to critical acclaim. She has performed in many festivals including the Burford Festival, Cambridge Summer Music Festival, Cheltenham International Music Festival, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, King’s Lynn Festival and Proms Plus Festivals and at many leading venues in the UK and elsewhere. Numerous composers have written works for Maria to premiere, most recently Roderick Williams OBE. Maria’s debut Somm CD ‘Echoes of Land and Sea’ was released last year featuring on both Radio 3 ‘In Tune’ and ‘Record Review’. Upcoming concerts include touring Hong Kong as a member of the Stradivarius Piano Trio.

“..delivered by Marchant with a richness of musicianship that haunts the memory…”Malcolm Hayes, BBC Music Magazine
“…All phenomenally played, with Marchant’s chameleon-like ability to inhabit each work something to marvel at…” Graham Rickson, Arts Desk
