  1. Carmina Burana - Carl Orff
  2. Les noces (The Wedding) - Igor Stravinsky, English translation by D Millar Craig

This matinee concert features Carl Orff’s ever-popular cantata Carmina Burana, and Stravinsky’s groundbreaking Les Noces (The Wedding). Orff’s playfully suggestive Carmina Burana borrows shamelessly from Les Noces, and yet the two could hardly be further apart. The startlingly original Les Noces was first conceived as a dance cantata about a 19th century Russian peasant wedding, and is scored for soloists, chorus, four pianos and percussion. The rumbustious and dramatic Carmina Burana, with its instantly recognisable choruses including the monumental O Fortuna, evokes the lusty medieval world of dancing, feasting and drinking. In this choral voyage of discovery, Crouch End Festival Chorus embraces the qualities and delights of both works with precision and energy.
