Our midsummer concert features anthems in English by some of the greatest church composers from the Renaissance to the present day. Amongst the firm favourites included are John Stainer's God so loved the world and John Rutter's The Lord bless you and keep you. Also to savour, but perhaps new to some, are dazzling masterpieces by William Byrd, Henry Purcell and Benjamin Britten.

Gifted young soprano Ellen Pearson is our exceptional guest soloist. Ellen sings moving arias by Purcell and two all-time favourites from Handel's Messiah, How beautiful are the feet and Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion, also joining the choir for the solo passages in Edward Bairstow's tour de force, Blessed city, heavenly Salem.

Our accompanist for the evening is virtuoso organist and pianist Malcolm Riley. Malcolm gets to give free rein to his expertise in our finale, Charles Hubert Parry's mighty I was glad when they said unto me. This stirring anthem has been sung at every British coronation since that of Edward VII in 1902.
