As 2018 marks the centenary of the end of the First World War, The Burford Singers are combining forces with the distinguished Surrey-based English Arts Chorale and the choristers of Bristol Cathedral in performing this landmark work. An earlier performance will take place on 9th June in Winchester Cathedral.
Britten’s War Requiem interleaves the war poetry of Wilfred Owen with the traditional Latin words of the Requiem Mass. Written for the consecration of the new Coventry Cathedral in 1962, this deeply moving work calls for an adult mixed choir, boys’ choir, full orchestra, chamber orchestra, three soloists, and organ.
At the end of the performance there will be a collection in aid of the Royal British Legion.
