  5. Meeting at Nisqueunia - James Manson

We team up with ‘Renaissance man’, cellist, singer and animateur Matthew Sharp for a four-day project in Stockport schools, culminating in a public performance of Copland’s Appalachian Spring.

Matthew also gets a chance to demonstrate his extraordinary versatility in two works; firstly Variations on a Rococo Theme for cello and orchestra by Tchaikovsky- a mixture of beautiful tunefulness and technical wizardry on the cello. After the interval, Matthew will put his cello to one side and sing the haunting and moving Erlkönig by Schubert, accompanied by the strings of the orchestra.

The concert will come to a rousing and rumbustious finale with our composer in residence and bass player, James Manson’s Meeting at Nisqueunia, a collection of Shaker melodies that explodes to life with a furiously exciting bluegrass romp to send you on your way.
