English pianist, conductor and teacher, Ian Hobson, studied piano and organ at the Royal Academy of Music in London, then pursued academic studies at Magdalene College, Cambridge, receiving a BA degree in 1972. Subsequently he studied piano with Claude Frank and harpsichord with Ralph Kirkpatrick at Yale University (USA), receiving DMA in 1978. Among his distinguished teachers were also Sidney Harrison, Ward DeVenny and Menahem Pressler. He made his London debut in 1979. Silver medals in the Artur Rubinstein and Vienna—Beethoven competitions preceded a first prize in the 1981 Leeds International Piano Competition.

Westminster Cathedral Hall lies back from Victoria Street near Victoria Station. Take any bus or tube/mainline train going to Victoria. There is also plenty of free parking in surrounding streets and no congestion charge at the weekend.
