  1. Messiah HWV 56 - George Frideric Handel

Following their successful Mozart productions in 2014 and 2015, Opera dei Lumi are delighted to return to Edinburgh. This time celebrating the festive season with a strikingly intimate performance of one of classical music’s most iconic works and Handel’s most famous oratorio – performed in the perfect setting of Greyfriars Kirk, Edinburgh.

Opera dei Lumi brings together some of the UK’s finest young singers and instrumentalists to explore the hope, drama and joy of this towering masterpiece, an essential part of the Festive Season at concert halls the world over.

This performance will be a rare chance to hear Messiah in its original version, as it was heard during its first performances in Dublin in 1742. Featuring many of the composer’s most famous choruses (notably the Hallelujah), interspersed with arias of unparalleled virtuosity and beautiful lyricism, join us to revel in the effervescent splendour of this magnificent choral work.
