A cycle of Schubert’s major piano sonatas (concert 2 of 4)

Schubert’s piano mastery takes the spotlight once more in the second of Tim Horton’s concerts devoted to the composer. The evening also demonstrates Schubert’s influence on succeeding generations: Liszt’s fiendishly challenging B minor Sonata is one clear example; while Schoenberg’s exquisite miniatures also owe a clear debt to Schubert’s Romantic style. The Sonata in G begins with a serene and seemingly never-ending melody and ends with a finale infused with upbeat Austrian folk melodies.

6.15 - 6.45pm: pre-concert talk - all ticket holders are invited to hear Tim Horton discuss the impact and legacy of Schubert’s piano music - free to all concert ticket holders; please request your talk ticket at the time of booking
