  1. Requiem Op 9 - Maurice Duruflé
  2. Mass in D Op 86 - Antonín Dvorák

We present two great works for voice and organ: the well-loved Requiem of French composer, Maurice Duruflé, written in 1947, and the Mass in D by Anton Dvorák, composed in 1887.

Considered by many to be his masterpiece, Duruflé’s Requiem is based on Gregorian plainchants used in the Mass for the Dead and was conceived as a memorial to his father.
In Duruflé’s words it “reflects the anguish of man facing the mystery of his last ending.”

Dvorák’s Mass in D is the only one of his several masses that still exists. It was conceived for an intimate space and occasion; it is both lyrical and reflective of Dvorák’s love of nature and his confident belief in ultimate redemption.
