Join us as we take a serene musical journey through the monastic day from Matins right through to Compline as part of Abbey 900 Festival celebrating 900 years since the founding of the Augustinian Abbey of St. Mary in Cirencester.

Built around William Byrd's Great Service, a 10-part masterpiece rediscovered in the 1920s, this concert will include works by Byrd's teacher and friend, Thomas Tallis, his German contemporary, Hans Leo Hassler, as well as the Kyrie from Palestrina's stunning Missa Papae Marcelli. We will also be extremely proud, at Terce, to premier a piece written specially for this concert by our very own Jonathan Hope, Nunc sancte nobis Spiritus.

Founded in 1949, the Saint Cecilia Singers is Gloucester Cathedral's chamber choir; a group of enthusiastic and gifted amateur and semi-professional singers. Over the years the choir has built an enviable reputation for its versatility, innovative programming and high musical standards. The choir is directed by Jonathan Hope, Assistant Director of Music at Gloucester Cathedral.
