Djumash Poulsen is a British violinist who was born in the former Soviet Union. He started his musical studies at the Aberdeen City Music School and had his violin lessons with Peter Zanre in Elgin (Scotland). He then attended the Yehudi Menuhin School at thirteen to study with Professor Lutsia Ibragimova. After YMS, he did his Bachelor’s degree at the Royal College of Music with the Knights of The Round Table Award, which culminated with a first. Solo and ensemble performances with orchestra have included Aberdeen Chamber Orchestra, Santander Encuentro Festival Orchestra, Central Asian (former USSR) Regional Orchestra and the CSO - the Turkish Presidential Orchestra. Participation in Masterclasses with renown musicians such as Mihaela Martin, So Ock Kim, Zakhar Bron, Natalia Boyarsky, Alina Ibragimova, Nicola Benedetti, Peter Herresthal, Tasmin Little and many more. Djumash has attended IMS Prussia Cove and the Santander Encuentro Music Festival and had been awarded the ESU Music Scholarship. Djumash is currently doing his Master’s Degree at the Royal Academy of Music under the American Society Scholarship with Professor Rodney Friend. Djumash is playing on an 18th Century violin kindly loaned to him by the Royal Academy of Music.
Djumash has performed in many renowned halls as soloist and chamber musician. These include the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, Albert Hall (Elgar Room), The Menuhin Hall, St Martin’s in the Fields, St James’ Church, Colston Hall, Aberdeen City Music Hall, Santander Philharmonic Hall, Trinity Chapel Cambridge, Radio Free Europe (Prague), St Mary’s Perivale Church, The Duke’s Hall, Amaryllis Fleming Hall and many more.
Most recent highlights include recitals/performances as soloist at the Royal Academy of Music, Bedford Church, Colston Hall (Bristol) and the Royal Overseas House. Djumash has also most recently performed as leader of the RAM Symphony Orchestra at the Duke’s Hall, and as part of the Academy’s elite string ensemble Sainsbury Academy Soloists which includes performances at the Wigmore Hall.
Pianist and collaborative artist, Malgorzata Garstka, specialises in chamber music and piano accompaniment. The idea of creating a collective vision, cooperating with other people and sharing experiences with them is what she values very highly. Being a part of something greater than just an individual act is what makes this field extremely exciting for her. Malgorzata has been appointed the Hodgson Fellow at the Royal Academy of Music for the 2016/2017 academic year.
Born in 1991 in Poland, Malgorzata has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at many prestigious UK venues including Wigmore Hall, Bridgewater Hall, St Martin in the Fields, London School of Economics, Colston Hall. She has also performed in Germany, Slovakia, Ukraine, France, Portugal, Italy and Poland.
