Winner of the 2010 BBC Young Musician prize, London-born Turkish pianist Lara Melda brings us a recital of Fantasies. The two from Mozart contrast changes of time and harmony, whilst Beethoven’s was described as a ‘flight of fancy’, with an expressive, improvisatory sound. Having considered retiring in 1890, Brahms returned to composing smaller-scale pieces the following year. His rich and poetic Fantasies were some of the last pieces he wrote and are considered among his finest works.
