Gryphon is the oldest and the newest thing - a legendary UK band that won a huge international following in the 1970s with its uniquely energetic approach to early music and British folk and is now touring again for the first time in nearly 40 years. Using crumhorns, bassoons and recorders alongside guitars, keyboards and percussion, Gryphon dazzled and delighted a wide range of music lovers and once appeared on BBC Radios 1, 2, 3 and 4 in a single week.
Gifted, unpredictable and impossible to pigeonhole, the band was - and is - the antidote to genres, adored alike by lovers of Renaissance music, prog rock and folk.
In the decades since Gryphon toured the world, often playing huge venues like Madison Square Garden and Houston Astrodome alongside bands like Yes, the original members have refined their virtuoso talents, working with artists that range from Paul McCartney and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to John Williams, Hans Zimmer, the Albion Band, Elvis Costello, Desmond Dekker and the Royal Choral Society. The new line-up also includes Graham Preskett, the man who played the mandolin for Captain Corelli's Mandolin, the tango violin for Moulin Rouge and the harmonica for Thelma and Louise.
