Harrogate International Festival is pleased to present a special recital from the Medici String Quartet, presenting a new co-comission from the late Sir John Tavener. Join the founder of the Medici Quartet Paul Robertson in an exclusive pre-concert talk at 6pm as he discusses his personal relationship with Tavener, particularly through the illnesses they both suffered. Discover how Tavener came to write a new piece for the Medici Quartet, it's influences from the poet Rumi and its design to act as a gift between Israel and Palastine.
Despite formally retiring at the Harrogate International Festival in 2007, the Medici Quartet will be returning to Harrogate this July for a very special concert. Founder and violinist, Paul Robertson, leads their performance of Sir John Tavener’s final work, Scatter Roses over my Tears – a meditation over a verse of the Sufi poet, Rumi. The quartet has an unrivaled reputation and this truly is a rare opportunity to see one of Britain’s greatest chamber groups celebrating a great British composer.
