John Williams, who recently announced his retirement from concert appearances, resumes his long-standing 'World Tour' partnership with multi-instrumentalist composer Richard Harvey for a one-off charity performance. This event is to raise funds for two great causes.
One is to fund the repairs needed to the ancient tower and roof of St Nicholas Church, Thames Ditton.
The other is to raise funds for the MAE Foundation, which brings musical instruments and music teaching to the 'kids between countries' – the thousands of refugee children from Burma who live out their lives in closed camps along the Thai border.
The illustrious duo presents dazzling, evocative virtuoso music from five continents and five centuries, with John Williams’s beautiful guitar framed by a vast range of sounds, from recorders, pan pipes and mandolin, to a mediaeval-style psaltery, an African thumb piano and rare Chinese instruments.
Sumptuous guitar melodies, infectious rhythms – it’s exciting and mostly unfamiliar music to surprise and amuse you, to make you smile and tap your feet, and to make the world seem a better place.
For a brief taster, see the performance of Richard Harvey's Enfield Dances on YouTube.
