The main work in our programme is the Piano Concerto No 2 by Shostakovich, a gloriously free, wistful creation - particularly in the famous second movement, which guarantees the whole work’s enduring popularity. We are delighted to welcome Japanese virtuoso pianist Maki Sekiya who has had a successful international career based in Russia and in Japan, after graduating from the Moscow Conservatoire. Maki is artist in residence at Oxford’s Green Templeton College.
The 5 Bagatelles by Gerald Finzi show off all the versatility of the instrument with clarinettist Catriona Scott who has given stunning performances of concertos by Mozart and Weber in previous Proms concerts.
We welcome international students in Oxford and offer a discount for bookings from college organisers available by contacting the concert promoter directly on the Oxford Proms concert website.
Tickets are available at the door from 6.45 to 7.30 when the concert starts. To reserve tickets and also get a free programme text 07754 555779 with your name and number of tickets required.
