Featuring two great Easter cantatas: Bach’s Christ lag in Todesbanden, BWV 4 and Buxtehude’s Heut triumphieret Gottes Sohn, BuxWV 43, the Colchester Chamber Choir makes a welcome return to St Edmundsbury Cathedral. Accompanied by some of the country’s finest young baroque players (strings, trumpets, continuo and timpani) from the Royal Academy of Music, the choir will also sing Bach’s motet Lobet den Herrn, and three other works by Buxtehude; his Magnificat, the Passiontide cantata Jesu, meines Lebens Leben and the joyous Alleluia (from Der Herr ist mit mir). Richard Moore, organ, will play some of Bach’s and Buxtehude’s great Easter chorale preludes. Roderick Earle directs.
