Composer and pianist Roland Perrin was commissioned by Hertfordshire Chorus to write Rio Amazonas, inspired by the Amazon River and region; its topography, its multitude of insects, the mystery of its remote tribes, and the experiences of the different people arriving from afar. Performed by a heady mix of jazz trio, massed choirs, and string orchestra, Rio Amazonas will leave you reflecting on the need for humanity to learn to dance with the natural world rather than trample it underfoot.
This concert will also feature well-known songs by renowned Brazilian jazz artists Antônio Carlos Jobim, Rosa Passos and Ivan Lins, arranged for jazz trio and choir by Roland Perrin. Each song has been chosen to reflect the beauty and the cherishing of nature, and the meaning of belonging to a place, all echoing the sentiments of Rio Amazonas.
