FInchley Symphony Orchestra's season opener pairs two richly romantic masterpieces. Elgar’s violin concerto is symphonic in stature. The composer apologised that it was “too romantic”, but that he loved it nonetheless. Our young soloist is Michael Foyle, 2016 winner of the Netherlands Violin Competition and now an international solo artist and professor at the Royal Academy of Music. Brahms’ second symphony is warm and optimistic, its closing pages perhaps the most energetic and joyful music he left us. The concert is conducted by David Lardi.
