Giovanni Gabrieli has become well known to concert audiences as the leading composer of the Venetian High Renaissance. It is unsurprising that Gabrieli’s music should have drawn such attention: it is of the most exquisite quality, and the large-scale polychoral pieces are so wonderfully evocative of the architecture of St Mark’s Basilica, where he was employed as organist for the majority of his career.
World renowned, pioneering historic brass ensemble His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts brings the instrumental and vocal music of Gabrieli and his Venetian contemporaries to St John’s Smith Square in this special thirty-fifth birthday concert celebrating the group's illustrious, ongoing contribution to the early music revival.
