Kent Chamber Choir makes a welcome return to Ashford for a concert in the town's historic parish church after an interval of some years.
Our programme comprises a wide range of splendid choral music in a variety of styles from the early 17th century to the present day by British, European, and American composers. Included are James MacMillan's powerful anthem O radiant dawn, a favourite chorus from Johannes Brahms's German Requiem, Charles Stanford's beautiful part-song The blue bird, and catchy arrangements of old standards by the likes of Cole Porter and Marvin Hamlisch.
Other composers represented are Ola Gjeilo, Zoltán Kodály, Robert Ramsey, and Thomas Weelkes. Francis Poulenc's three French chansons spice things up and Alan Vincent's rhythmic Viva la musica! aims to get your feet tapping.
Our guest soloist is gifted young soprano Fiona Jackson, winner of Kent Chamber Choir's 2016 Kath Topping Vocal Award for aspiring professionals. Accompanied by Roger Harris she sings the precocious maid Despina's saucy aria from Mozart's Così fan tutte, and Tesori and Scanlon's unique The girl in 14G which contrasts snippets from Mozart's Queen of the Night show-stopper with show-style vocals.
