Concert Title: Britten - Paul Bunyan
Performers: Wimbledon Choral Society
Michael Ashcroft, conductor
The Little Opera Company
Programme :Benjamin Britten
1:Paul Bunyan, Op 17
Note: This rarely performed choral operetta gets an airing as the final concert for the 2008/09 season. It is a particular favourite of Michael Ashcroft, Wimbledon Choral Society's Musical Director, who after 30 years at the helm will be standing down from the role after this concert.

Music by Britten with lyrics by W H Auden, this was written during the period when both men had moved to the United States to escape the war in Europe and is based on the legend of the giant lumberjack of American myth. The work was heavily panned by the US critics when first performed in 1941 which led to some substantial rewriting by Britten for a second outing in 1976.

Please note the early start time of 6.30pm.
