3:Take him, earth, for cherishing
Note: Fauré’s Requiem was not written to commemorate the loss of a loved one but rather was driven by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest. Composed 120 years ago, the popularity of this work has never waned. Gerald Finzi is one of the most admired British composers of the 20th century and Lo, the Full Final Sacrifice is a prime example of his richly textured writing including a sublime final Amen. Herbert Howells was considered the best of his generation of composers whilst at the Royal College of Music. In 1964, he was commissioned to write Take Him, Earth, for Cherishing, following the assasination of John F Kennedy the previous year.

Also, as part of the evening's programme, we welcome two talented young musicians in the early stages of their international careers. The young Canadian violinist, Katie Stillman, and her duo recital partner pianist, Simon Lane, will show why they win so many awards and plaudits. The choir will be accompanied in the Fauré by members of the New Queen's Hall Orchestra.
