Following previous highly successful joint ventures, the large forces of Croydon Philharmonic Choir and Wimbledon Choral Society are once again combining to promote a concert containing a wonderful mix of the contemporary, the powerful and the delightful in choral music. Karl Jenkin's accessible work continues to draw audiences and admiration from all over and has retained its high position in the classical music charts since it first appeared. Bruckner is usually associated with his Masses and set of Motets but the terrific momentum of his Te Deum is committed at the outset and continues non-stop. Vaughan Williams wrote his Serenade to Music as a tribute to Sir Henry Wood (both men former Presidents of Wimbledon Choral Society) to mark the 50th anniversary of Wood's first concert. The vocal score still includes the names of the original 16 singers selected by Vaughan Williams to perform the work. |
