As always, a fascinating programme from the St Cecilia Orchestra, including (given the date of the concert) music with an American flavour. Stravinsky's very attractive Dumbarton Oaks Concerto was written in, and for friends in the USA, Copland's Clarinet Concerto is rapidly becoming one of the most popular modern concertos and we have a very fine, young, local soloist, Vicky Sheehan-Dare, to play it. Short pieces by Charles Ives begin each half of the concert and the programme finishes with Haydn's Symphony No 60 - written in 1776, the year of the Declaration of Independence.
