| Note: | |
The temperature is rising, and so is the tempo! As part of the general Haydn bicentennial celebrations, the Hanover Choir is performing the Little Organ Mass (Missa Brevis), a sizzling short form of the traditional mass. Watch out for the 60 second Gloria, and the Benedictus beloved of church organists throughout the land.
It just wouldn’t be an English summer without some English music. We have some great Purcell tunes, including excerpts from the King Arthur semi-opera, in which the hero defeats the Saxons via superior lyrics, provided by a Dryden libretto. Don’t miss the other Dryden poem Fairest Isle, where Britain is the seat of pleasures and of loves.
We also have the surging anthem of the Handel Zadok the Priest, which will remind you of the Champions League theme tune – only infinitely superior, and without the irritating car ads. Finally, there is a bonus chorus from the Haydn Creation to get you in the mood for summer. |
