Venice comes to Bristol in this wonderfully evocative concert featuring Venetian music of 16th and 17th century in the reverberant acoustic of All Saints’ Church, Clifton. This was the golden age of music in Venice when composers such as Monteverdi, Gabrieli and Croce wrote elaborate and exuberant music for the ceremonies of St Mark’s Basilica.
The concert includes some popular motets by these composers alongside the work of less well-known Venetian composers whose music is equally grand, flamboyant and full of Italian passion, including Rigatti and Donato. Much of the music is written for two or more choirs positioned around the church, creating a magnificent web of sound.
Come and enjoy the music of Venice with Italian refreshments to make you feel you’re in St Mark’s Square!
